Who we are
CBIO Initiatives for Global Health is a non-profit organization established in 2025 to promote and advance the Census-Based, Impact-Oriented (CBIO) Approach to improving community health outcomes by providing access to training materials, technical assistance, and practical implementation tools. We support community-centered, evidence-based health initiatives, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, and seek to collaborate with governments, academic institutions, development partners, and local organizations for the purpose of helping communities to improve their health.

Evolution of the CBIO Approach
Through the inspiration, guidance, and extensive field experiences of Professor John Wyon in India and global health pioneers Warren and Gretchen Berggren in Haiti, the concepts of CBIO began to emerge as Andean Rural Health Care began its community-based programs on the Northern Altiplano of Bolivia in 1981 and extended its work to other parts of Bolivia in the 1990s and to Guatemala in the 2000s.
Because CBIO proved to be an empowering methodology for field staff and for the communities themselves, and because of its effectiveness in improving health and demonstrating this improvement with solid data, Impact Global Health Alliance (formerly Andean Rural Health Care and Curamericas Global) has implemented CBIO in Haiti, Liberia and Kenya. Now is the time to promote the adoption of CBIO by other communities, community organizations, non-governmental organizations, governments, academic institutions, and development partners. This website and our NGO is dedicated to this goal.
